The canton of St. Gallen
The Canton of St. Gallen (SG) is located in the north east of Switzerland, near Germany and Austria.
This is a region of embroidery and nimble hands, in the beginning of the century, the region alone accounted for two thirds of world production of embroidered fabrics.
City of St. Gallen
The city of St. Gallen (71 000 inhabitants) is the capital of the Canton.
St. Gallen is unquestionably the city of Oriel windows. These strange windows have the advantage of lighting the room, but they serve mainly to show the richness of its inhabitants. Paintings and sculptures tell stories, often funny, sometimes terrifying ... There are more than an hundred Oriel windows in the city of St. Gallen.
Away from the lively pedestrian area, we enjoy the calm and serenity of the abbey. The enclosure of the convent is dominated by two towers, reaching 68 meters, they are the symbol of the city for over 200 years.
Rorschach - Lake Constance
St. Gallen is only 10 kilometers from the Lake Constance ("Bodensee" in german). A little less extensive than Lake Geneva, it still extends over a length of 64 kilometers, and its shores belong to 3 countries: Switzerland, Germany and Austria.
The large village of Rorschach lives to the rhythm of boats and seagulls. On the south shore of Lake Constance, we're only 20 minutes to Austria, but still in Switzerland. In the Middle Ages, Rorschach was the main port of the lake.
Rorschach, 8 670 inhabitants, wakes up on market days. The whole town then meets on the docks and sells everything and anything, to the sound of the barrel organ.
