The canton of Graubünden

Graubünden ("Grigioni" in Italian, "Grischun" in Romansch, "Grisons" in french) is the largest Swiss canton, with more than 7000km2 from Austria to Italy. Yet, with its 187'000 inhabitants, it comprises only 2.5% of the swiss population.

Graubünden probably offers the greatest cultural diversity of the country. German speakers are grouped around the capital Chur. The Italian speakers are found in the southern valleys while Romansch speakers mostly inhabit the remote valleys of the Engadine. So many languages, as many traditions showing that the Grisons are a small country in Switzerland. A miniature Switzerland, at the crossroads of Europe.

In eastern Switzerland, the small town of Davos intrigues with its 13,000 inhabitants at nearly 1600 m.

Davos offers one of the most interesting ski areas. With its nearly 3 million overnight stays annually, it represents one of the most visited sites on the continent. 44 lifts with over 320km of runs, the Davos ski resort is especially famous for its giant sledge runs.

Davos is in fact divided into two large villages : Davos-Platz (administrative center) and Davos-Dorf, four kilometers away, connected by a small asphalt road.
