The canton of Glarus
The canton of Glarus is a small portion of territory located in eastern Switzerland. Glarus is a mountainous canton dominated by the Tödi (3630 meters) and Glarnisch (2914 meters) mountains overlooking the small lake of Klöntal.
Atypical small canton (17th in size), Glarus is not really in central Switzerland (although immediate neighboring cantons of Schwyz and Uri) nor entirely in eastern Switzerland ... but resolutely in the countryside since the biggest city counts no more than 10,000 inhabitants.
City of Glarus
The small town of Glarus is the capital of the canton. Glarus sits at the foot of the Alps, nestled in a valley.
In 1861, Glarus has been ravaged by a fire that spared only a few buildings.
Population: 5800

Lake Klöntal
A few steps from Glarus, Lake Klöntal offers a magnificent natural spectacle, at 848 m. Translucent waters contrasts with the dark vertiginous cliffs.
A path runs along the southern shore of the lake, while the eastern shore provides access to a trail leading to a panoramic view of the lake.
